Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers (1980)

A man who loves garlic holds up his hands while speaking of his enthusiasm for it. He's wearing a garlic hat and a garland of garlic around his shoulders.

Fucking wild that, within living memory, it was maybe a little weird if you ate a bunch of garlic. Also, the energy vampire thing from the What We Do in the Shadows TV series totally comes from this movie’s discursion into vampirism. Also, I didn’t do the thing where you watch this movie with a few heads of garlic roasting in a toaster oven, which is a shame because if I had done so I’d have a bunch of roasted garlic, which rules. Also, the Spanish guy who looks like a busted-ass Stuntman Mike rules. Also, it’s hard not to imagine Werner Herzog saying “jarlic is an abomination, an unceasing mockery of one of life’s rare pleasures” or whatever. Also, Les Blank basically invented Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Also, I love that this mf printed a bunch of Garlic Is As Good As Ten Mothers tees and took them with him to the set of Fitzcarraldo and handed them out to the cast and crew, a relentless self-promoter even amidst the hostility and murder of the jungle.
