ADHD-addled pop art, like if Fury Road took place on Rainbow Road, or like if they made the whole fuckin movie out of the podracing stuff. The audience burst out into applause when Speed took home the Grand Prix, I burst into tears when the Wachowskis were properly credited as Lana and Lilly, and there is a roar in my head that is running far, far beyond the the technicolor fantasia I remembered from back when this first came out. Everything was so vivid. You could count the stitches on Speed’s leather gloves if you wanted, or lose yourself entirely in the chaos of the race, the roar and cacophony of the crowd. Plots beat on in the background but none of that shit matters nearly as much as going as fast as fucking possible does, each crash and burn mounting until all you can see is victory or the matrix or the face of god or whatever. Perfect.
