Dr. No (1962)

When you listen to the commentary track from the Criterion laserdisc (which is on the channel rn, I don’t have that kind of money!) you get to hear everything you’ve ever thought about this weird little movie confirmed: nobody knew how to be cool in 1962 so this felt like the birth of that for the British, everybody involved was a wizardly professional, much of Bond’s film language was invented by a gay dude trying to make something boring a bit punchier, everyone wanted to fuck Connery.
