With the exception of Christopher Lee, all of the actors here are fucking awful, leading to a situation where nearly every line is ADRed except Christopher Lee’s. The mix is so out of whack as a result that Howling II feels like the loudest movie ever made except when Christopher Lee is talking. All of Lee’s line reads are so low in the mix that it’s as if they were shot without the aid of microphones, meanwhile all 9,000 werewolves are doing piggy noises directly in your inner ear.
Despite and partially because of this, the film is an absolute delight. It’s a shame Roger Ebert saw the version where they only show Sibyl Danning rip her shirt off twice during the credits, because the version where they repeat it 17 times is a hoot, especially when the film’s significant owl is shown to be responding to her.
